About OpenRank Data
We believe domain authority data should be accessible to everyone. OpenRank Data provides free, transparent access to Open PageRank scores for millions of domains worldwide.
Our Mission
OpenRank Data was created to democratize access to domain authority information. In a digital landscape where proprietary SEO tools often come with expensive subscriptions, we saw an opportunity to provide valuable ranking data completely free of charge.
Our goal is simple: help website owners, SEO professionals, digital marketers, and curious internet users understand how domains rank in terms of authority and trustworthiness. Whether you're evaluating a potential backlink opportunity, researching competitors, or simply curious about where your favorite websites stand globally, OpenRank Data gives you instant answers.
What is Open PageRank?
Open PageRank is an open-source implementation of Google's original PageRank algorithm, developed by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were Stanford University students. The algorithm measures the importance of web pages based on the quantity and quality of links pointing to them.
While Google stopped publicly sharing PageRank scores in 2016, the Open PageRank project continues to calculate and publish these scores using the same mathematical principles. The result is a transparent, reproducible metric that gives you insight into how authoritative a domain is based on its backlink profile.
The Open PageRank scale runs from 0 to 10:
- 0-1: Very low authority, typically new or poorly-linked sites
- 2-3: Low to moderate authority, common for small businesses and personal sites
- 4-5: Moderate authority, often seen in established niche websites
- 6-7: High authority, typically large companies and popular platforms
- 8-10: Very high authority, reserved for the web's most linked-to properties like Google, Facebook, and Wikipedia
Our Data Source
Data Source: Open PageRank by DomCop
OpenRank Data is powered by the Open PageRank dataset provided by DomCop. This dataset contains PageRank scores for over 10 million domains and is calculated using data from Common Crawl, one of the largest publicly available web archives.
The Open PageRank API and dataset are maintained by DomCop as a free service for the SEO community. We are grateful for their commitment to keeping this valuable data accessible to everyone. The dataset is updated periodically to reflect changes in the web's link structure.
For developers and businesses requiring direct API access or bulk data downloads, we recommend visiting the Open PageRank documentation.
How Our Tool Works
When you search for a domain on OpenRank Data, we query the Open PageRank database in real-time to retrieve the most current data available. The results include:
- Open PageRank Score: The domain's authority score on a scale of 0-10
- Global Rank: Where the domain stands among all 10+ million domains in the database
- Domain Extension: The top-level domain (TLD) such as .com, .org, or .io
Our tool requires no registration, no API keys, and no payment. Simply enter a domain name and get instant results. We also provide browsable tables of the top-ranked domains so you can explore which websites hold the highest authority globally.
Why Free?
We believe that basic SEO intelligence should not be locked behind paywalls. While premium SEO tools offer comprehensive features for professionals, many website owners just need quick answers to simple questions: "What's my domain's PageRank?" or "How does my site compare to competitors?"
Our service is supported by advertising, which allows us to keep the tool free for everyone. We're committed to maintaining a clean, user-friendly experience while ensuring the site remains sustainable.
Accuracy and Limitations
While we strive to provide accurate data, it's important to understand the limitations of Open PageRank:
- Not real-time: The dataset is updated periodically, not continuously. Very recent changes in a domain's link profile may not be reflected immediately.
- Coverage: While the database includes over 10 million domains, very new or obscure domains may not yet be indexed.
- One metric among many: PageRank is just one factor in SEO. Modern search engines use hundreds of ranking signals, and no single metric tells the complete story.
We recommend using Open PageRank as one data point in your SEO analysis, alongside other metrics and qualitative assessments of content and user experience.
